Vetiveria zizanioides grows across the tropics — in India, Indonesia, Brazil, and Haiti. But the fragrance industry has long identified Haitian vetiver as the reference standard for natural perfumery. The reasons are chemical and geographic.
The volcanic clay soils of Haiti’s southern Artibonite Valley and South Department produce vetiver roots with a distinct sesquiterpene profile — deeper, more complex, and more tenacious than Indian or Java-origin oils. The “earthy, resinous, smoky” character that perfumers describe in classic chypres, fougères, and leather accords depends on Haitian vetiver specifically.
From root to fragrance lab — direct
VETRIUM was founded to solve a specific problem: the supply chain between Haitian vetiver farms and US fragrance houses is opaque, slow, and full of intermediaries who add cost without adding value.
We built a direct supply channel — from vetiver root cultivation in Haiti, through steam distillation at our partner facilities, to export and delivery to qualified fragrance houses in New Jersey. No brokers, no country-of-origin ambiguity, no documentation gaps.
Our vetiver roots are of 100% Haitian genetic origin. Due to operational security considerations, cultivation and distillation are carried out at certified partner facilities. Every lot is independently tested — the COA reflects the actual batch you receive.
